We all need connection during these tough times

Create connection and opportunity for SquashWise student-athletes

As the world continues to deal with a global health crisis, an economic crisis, and rampant injustice, one thing has become abundantly clear: We all need connection. And at SquashWise, we work together even while we stand apart.

Will you join our team and make a gift to meet the changing needs of SquashWise students through this roller coaster school year?

During COVID-19, students have lost their school environments, their sports, and their social interactions. We are so proud of the way we have adapted and responded to counter these challenges. From virtual "Summer Camp in a Box" to our fall outdoor clubs offering pickleball, running, and hiking, SquashWise has not skipped a beat during the pandemic.

Yet the Aspen Institute reports that 3 out of ever 10 student-athletes will likely not return to sports post-pandemic, and families are increasingly less likely to afford sports. SquashWise will ensure that our students return to squash when it is safe to do so, and we will continue to offer diverse experiences like pickleball and 'Speedminton' like we have been playing this fall.

And the Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Education estimates that the pandemic will cause 18 months of 'summer melt,' the educational regression that occurs during long absences from school. SquashWise will continue to partner with students on their educational goals by offering tutoring, college/career readiness, and leadership opportunities.

By supporting SquashWise, you are helping us mitigate the social and educational effects of the pandemic, and you are providing enhanced connection and wellbeing for our students.

It's been a hard year, but so far this fall, we are proud to report:

  • 76 after-school participants are enrolled in grades 6-12, plus 29 graduates of our program in college, career, and/or the military
  • 160 hours of academic development and enrichment, including tutoring, creative writing, and our student leadership council
  • 70 hours of sports and fitness activities, including pickleball, hiking, and running
  • 40 hours of support and wellness activities, including small group advisory sessions and our “lunch bunch” social hour
  • Close to an 80% attendance rate across our programs!

We need your support to pivot into new activities, continue our virtual programs, and deliver care packages and materials for students to use at home to face whatever the next challenge brings.

Your gift of any amount makes a difference.

Thank you!
